Springwoods Elementary School opened in 1985. Its name reflects the Springwoods geographic area of Lake Ridge in which it is located. Springwoods Elementary School has been designated by the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Fully Accredited School and as a Prince William County School of Excellence for years 2000-2010. It received the Governor’s Award for Education in 2009, 2010, and 2011. In 2008, Springwoods was named a No Child Left Behind Blue Ribbon School and The Washington Post identified Springwoods as being one of the top 100 elementary schools in Northern Virginia.
In September 2011, Springwoods Elementary School will begin incorporating Baldrige in Education into its educational process. COMMUNITIES SERVED Springwoods serves the community of Lake Ridge north of Old Bridge Road, along Springwoods Drive, and south of Old Bridge Road along Smoketown Rd to Beaver Ford Rd. SPECIAL PROGRAMS Springwoods Elementary School has its own in-house Gifted and Talented program and ESOL center. Springwoods Elementary School participates in the Banking-at-School Partnership Program, along with its sponsor and business partner Cardinal Bank of Woodbridge. The Banking-at-School Partnership Program is designed to provide a multidisciplinary method to reinforce, augment, and support the objectives of the Standards of Learning for Mathematics, English, History, Social Science, Computer Technology and Career and Technical Education competencies through practical education experiences. The Springwoods Stars and Stripes Bank is staffed by fourth and fifth graders who assume the roles of tellers, marketing specialists, assistant manager, and bank manager. All students at Springwoods Elementary School are invited to open a savings account at the school.
Enrichment: Springwoods Elementary School provides instruction in Art, P.E., Music, Technology, and Library Science. Students in the 4th and 5th grades have an opportunity to participate in the Strings and Chorus programs. Extra-Curricular Programs: Springwoods Elementary School has an active Student Council Association (SCA). Extra-curricular programs include Patrols, Basketball Camp, Girls on the Run, and the Magic, Computer, Yearbook, Art, and Scrabble clubs. After-school classes are also offered that focus on Spanish and French.
Springwoods Elementary School has a very involved Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) which has sponsored a variety of activities including a Welcome Back Social, Pumpkin Patch and Fall Festival, Holiday Bazaar, Family Bowling Day, BINGO Night, Green Eggs & Ham Breakfast for Dinner Night, Spring Festival, Patriots Run, and Talent Show. Through its fundraising, the PTO provides opportunities for staff development, as well as instructional materials for students and teachers.
Springwoods also has a wide array of volunteers and retired educators who work with students on a regular basis. WHAT MAKES OUR SCHOOL UNIQUE?
